The oldest part of Tod house is the kitchen, built in 1851. It was there that many bizarre events occurred that the levelheaded Colonel Evans was at a loss to explain. Objects in the kitchen would swing for no apparent reason, sometimes for hours at a time in front of eyewitnesses.

During a New Year's Eve party at Tod house in the late 1940's, startled guests noticed an old biscuit jar suddenly swinging violently from a hook in the kitchen. It continued to swing for 35 minutes. Colonel Evans tried to reassure his guests that this was just one of the quirky things that had been happening in his kitchen lately. . .(next)
