Imagine a 200 km horseback ride to Golden, east to Winnipeg
by caboose, then south into the United States and west again
to the coast to visit your family!

When not attending school you worked in the home or family
business. Children would help out by gathering food from the
garden, collecting eggs and milk from the family's farm
animals, and going hunting or fishing.

Of course, when all of the work was done, there would be time for fun, and families would often entertain themselves at sleighing parties, dances, parties, concerts, and amateur plays with friends and neighbours.
