You’ve arrived at the Vancouver Maritime Museum’s Northern Heritage image database. At this site, you will find over 2,500 images related to the Arctic and the St. Roch, the first vessel to transit the Northwest Passage as well as the first vessel to circumnavigate the entire North American continent.

What you can expect to do here:
You have a number of choices. You can learn about the Northwest passage, the St. Roch and the Arctic including the people who live there and the environment. Most importantly you can browse our database of images to discover more about the Arctic and the rich history of the land and its people. Different topical categories have been created to aid you in your research. You can easily search the database based on existing topics such as:

• The Land
• The People
• Early Polar Exploration Expeditions
• The St. Roch transit of NW Passage 1939-42 & 1944
• The St. Roch II (Voyage of Rediscovery)
• The St. Roch in her current location (dry dock @ the Vancouver Maritime Museum)

or you might want to search the images based on the donor or current copyright holder. You can perform this through the “collections” menu.

Order a quality copy of an image for you personal interest or research or if you are publishing something request a license for publishing purposes. You can do all of this on-line.

Lastly, you may have images you want to contribute to the dynamic collection. To do so you can forward digital copies to the museum electronically. We would be happy to add them to the database and you could be proud of contributing to an important knowledge base.
