CECIL RODERICK HELMCKEN
(1865)

Shortly after Claus was born, his mother Cecilia died from pneumonia. A friend of the family Mrs. Finlayson took care of the new baby, but he died soon after returning home. Says John of his son:". . .I think he had been accidentally injured. He had a tooth when born, and in this respect resembled his grandfather. Poor Cecilia was burried in the churchyard and the two babies who had been lying in the garden were buried with her."John S. Helmcken (BCARS ADD.MSS.505, v.12)
