Shortly after Claus was born, his mother Cecilia died from pneumonia. A friend of the family Mrs. Finlayson took care of the new baby, but he died soon after returning home. Says John of his son:". . .I think he had been accidentally injured. He had a tooth when born, and in this respect resembled his grandfather.
