W Image-Emily Carr hat's New at Carr House

On Nov. 13, 1997, Kilshaw's Auctioneers Ltd.
(1115 Fort St., Victoria, B.C., Canada)
auctioned off two wonderful Emly Carr's:
Scene from Dallas Road: Sold for $40,000 and The Surging New Growth: Sold for $55,000.
Both works are oil on paper and from Emily's later period.

Welcome to Carr House! This is where Emily Carr grew up. Today, Carr House is a partial reconstruction of what it might have been like as Emily knew it. We used every curatorial method available to re-create her surroundings, from Emily's books and letters, old photographs, and friends' verbal descriptions, to paint chips and old department store catalogs.

Despite this, Carr House is always changing, from new efforts in restoration to fun programs we put on to help tell Emily Carr's story. We also run a small art gallery that highlights the work of local artists, children's programs (my personal favorite), and an "antique care and appraisal day" for anyone with an old painting, costume, or old piece of furniture. Or, if that is too much, you can simply relax on the porch with a cup of tea and take in the beautiful surroundings.
