Fort Steele Heritage Town - Fort Steele, B.C. |
The historic Fort Steele town site is located in Fort Steele, British Columbia. Before the existence of the town of Fort Steele the gold rush of 1864 sparked a great deal of interest and economic activity in the area. With more people rushing to the area to find gold, conflicts arose which Sam Steele of the North West Mounted Police developed a reputation of settling fairly. In gratitude and recognition of Mr. Steele's service, citizens renamed the town 'Fort Steele'. Today, Fort Steele has been restored to a 19th century town that is open to the public and provides a fun and interactive learning experience for the entire family. |
