Students were taught at Craigflower Schoolhouse from 1854 to 1911. The first school examination was held on Saturday, July 28, 1855, teacher Charles Clark.

It was a grand ceremony - decorated arches were built at both ends of the Gorge Bridge; parents and other adults attended and at the close of ceremonies there was a 21 gun salute.
