Craigflower Schoolhouse - B.C. Archives (A_02666) McKenzie brought a Schoolteacher, one Mr. Barr, with the settlers to Craigflower. Upon arrival at Fort Victoria, James Douglas put Mr. Barr to work at the Fort Victoria School.

McKenzie was angry as the emigrant's children did not attend the Fort School. A Mr. Clark was sent out from England in the fall of 1854.

The Craigflower emigrants set to work to build a SchoolHouse for their children. Begun on August 30th, 1854 it was completed in April of 1855. Craigflower Colonial School established in 1855. (I_26592)

Craigflower Schoolhouse - B.C. Archives (A_02662) Lumber was milled at the Craigflower Sawmill and hauled by oxen and rafted across the Gorge. Bricks for the fireplace and chimney were made at the McKenzie brickworks or had been ballast on the Norman Morison (those stamped "Stourbridge").
