Students at Craigflower learned much of their lessons by memorization.


Object Lessons were lectures where the teacher would describe the physical attributes of an object and have the students repeat after him.

Penmanship and Writing. Penmanship & Writing skills were important.

Girls would have lessons on Sewing and Cookery with the Schoolmaster's wife.

The boys would be taught Science, Geography and perhaps Forms of Government.
Science and Geography.

Religious training, etiquette and manners were also taught.

The Schoolroom was also used as the Craigflower community centre. There were church services, christenings, social gatherings and for a time, frequent scientific meetings with lectures such as:

"The Immortality of the Soul"and "The Inventions of Man."

James Deans is known to have presented at these evenings.
