In 1855, the Craigflower Inventory listed the following livestock at the farm:

14 horses 15 milch cows 12 working oxen 83 other cattle 1126 sheep 27 swine 80 poultry

In Scotland, the 'laird' of the estate gave each married labourer a cow and chickens. McKenzie gave each of the Craigflower farmhands a cow a chicken to provide eggs and dairy for every family.
