ABORIGINAL PEOPLES of the Victoria Area
Thousands of years before Scottish settlers established Craigflower Farm in 1853, the Kosapsom First Nations had the forest and seashore to themselves.
In 1850, the Kosapsom First Nations signed the Douglas Treaties selling land which included most of present day Esquimalt.
James Douglas of the Hudson's Bay Company purchased the land for blankets and other goods.
This agreement did not include fisheries, village sites, or fields.
Descendants of the Kosapsom First Nations continue to reside in the Esquimalt area.
