Interior

The British Columbia Interior has many mountain ranges building up to the great Rocky Mountains. The total area of interior British Columbia consists of the entire province east of the Cascade and Coast ranges.

This area is a mixture of steep rocky slopes and snowy peaks of the high mountain ranges. There are river valleys and canyons between the mountain ranges. The Interior Plateau consists of rolling uplands separated by deep valleys and occasional rounded hills and isolated mountains.

The winters can be very cold with lots of snow and temperatures dropping to -21C in the winter. Typical shrubs are sagebrush, currant,and wheatgrass. Common trees to this area are the Douglas-fir, Lodgepole Pine, Trembling Aspen, Red-cedar, and Western Hemlock, Spruce, and Pine. Common animals in the area are moose, bear, beaver,deer, and rabbit.
