ABORIGINAL PEOPLES of the Victoria Area

Thousands of years before Scottish settlers established Craigflower Farm in 1853, the Kosapsom First Nations had the forest and seashore to themselves.

In 1850, members of the Kosapsom Nation signed the Douglas Treaties selling land which included all present day View Royal.

James Douglas of the Hudson's Bay Company purchased the land for blankets and other goods.

This agreement did not include fisheries, village sites, or fields.

Descendants of the Kosapsom Nation continue to reside in the Esquimalt and Songhees area.
